BACKGROUND OF THE EMOJI
Emojis were created in 1999 by Shigetaka Kurita for the Japanese mobile internet “i-mode” to prevent misunderstandings and add emotion to messages. Inspired by manga (Japanese comics) and weather charts, Kurita designed 176 images, which grew, and eventually included weather, transportation, and some basic emotions. After becoming very popular in Japan, other companies like Apple began to make their own emojis, and they became a common part of digital communication everywhere.
